St. Pat’s Parade — Smith Street

(3.9) This is either a heads-up on a good time, or a traffic advisory — thing is, people may not have been expecting a parade this weekend. The St. Patrick’s Day Parade kicks off Saturday at noon from Smith Street at Hilltop Avenue proceeding east to the state house.

Along the route, between Orms and Chalkstone, you will find Patrick’s Pub where I think it is safe to say people will be celebrating. The awning out front says “CÉAD MÍLE FÁILTE” which means, “A hundred thousand welcomes.” Learn how to pronounce it here.

Be advised: According to the Facebook event page, area streets will start closing at 10:15am.

And, because the holiday has always been inextricably linked to physical fitness, there will be a 5K, the Tour de Patrick, starting at 11am at the state house. The route takes runners west on Smith up to Wyndham where you loop around and back, stopping at Patrick’s for a quick pint, and then back to the state house to register you time.

And then head back to Patrick’s where Erin’s Guild will be performing Irish music from noon to 4pm.

Saturday, March 9, Patrick’s Pub, 381 Smith Street, (directions)
