(5.4) Nobody better tell me there is nothing to do this weekend! This just in: The Wilbury Group is throwing itself a fundraiser party Saturday night. Have fun while supporting the arts — and maybe check out the new-ish location for the first time. FUN(d)HOME, the 2019 Wilbury Group Gala, features previews, talented people, and ukeleles.
We’re honoring a few people at the event including actor Richard Donelly and local arts supporter Arthur Richter. Plus, we’ll have previews of our season finale “Fun Home” (based on Alison Bechel’s graphic novel)/Tony award winning musical, Micah Jackson, and (of course) the Rhode Island Ukelele Armada (it’s the only armada this state can afford).
General admission includes presentation of Kerry Callery Award to Richard Donelly, cash bar, and hors d’oeuvres by FireWorks Catering. Go here for tickets or to donate.
VIP tickets include complimentary champers and raw bar from 6pm to 7:30pm.
Seen here is a scene from Classes & Workshops where students learn improv, script analysis, and acting! You can attend all of the sessions, or just one or two. ‘Exploring the Art of Acting’ is led by Phoenyx Williams; this class is drop-in and pay-what-you-can.
When told that England could no longer afford to support the national ballet during wartime, Winston Churchill reportedly replied, “Then what are we fighting for?”
We need the arts . . . just because.
