‘Giving Birth In America’ At List

(10.15) More proof that we have become a third world country. A screening of the documentary Giving Birth In America will be followed by a conversation with Every Mother Counts founder Christy Turlington Burns. The movie examines the issues that have contributed to the maternal health crisis in the United States, where women are more likely to die from pregnancy and childbirth than in any other developed country. The film, Giving Birth in America, examines the issues that have contributed to the maternal health crisis in the United States, where women are more likely to die from pregnancy and childbirth than in any other developed country.

Light refreshments will be served. Registration is required.

Turlington was one of the top models in the 80s and 90s: Chanel, YSL, Marc Jacobs, movies (Unzipped, Prêt-à-Porter), music videos with Duran Duran, the whole nine yards. Once described by Vogue’s Grace Coddington as “the most beautiful woman in the world” an argument could be made that her true beauty is just now on display. This country’s health care system is a disgrace, particularly in its treatment of women.

Free, 4pm to 6pm, Tuesday, October 15, Room 120, List Art Center, 64 College Street, (directions)

    Beth,

You mean Tuesday October 15, but I’m sure everyone gets that. Were you at the Scurvy Dog parking lot show yesterday? A band called Heavy Drugs walked away with Best New Band of the Year for my money–hellacious Hendrix-like power trio jamming on violin, standup bass, drummer (doling out Mitch Mitchell-like energy). Can find nothing about them on the web but I’ll be looking.
