‘Never Again Action’ At State House

(10.17) Head over to the state house Thursday and join ‘Never Again Action’ in a protest of the private prison system and its taxpayer-funded profit stream, ICE. Former state rep Aaron Regunberg has been spearheading these actions, locally and up at Wyatt, and hopes that this ‘Take Back the State House’ occupation will finally get the attention of state leadership. (Facebook event.)

For months, Jews, immigrants, and allies have been calling for #ShutDownWyatt. Our elected officials have yet to join our call, so we’re coming to them.

We will occupy the statehouse to call on our leaders to: #ShutDownWyatt and ban private prisons; Work to release people detained by ICE at Wyatt; Ban all local and state collaboration with ICE.

Just last Friday California Governor Gavin Newsom signed legislation banning private prisons and detentions centers (CBS News).

California is the first state to enact a bill banning prisons of this nature, which also includes civil and immigration detention centers. Under the legislation, all existing contracts with for-profit, private prisons and detention centers will be phased out by 2028.

Lets be the second. (Go here to get involved with Never Again Action Rhode Island.)

3:30pm, Thursday, October 17, RI State House, 82 Smith Street, (directions)
