(11.15) New music and multimedia collective Verdant Vibes will perform new works for instruments and electronics featuring: Chuck Furlong, clarinets; Piero Guimaraes, percussion; EmmaLee Holmes-Hicks and Roseminna Watson, violin; Hannah Ross, viola; and Zan Berry on cello. (Facebook event.)
Original works to be performed include ‘Étoiles de mer’ by composer and Verdant Vibes founder Kirsten Volness; she will not, however, be in attendance. Volness and partner (as well as Verdant Vibes bassist and composer) Jacob Richman have since moved to Portland, Oregon, for new teaching positions. They are nonetheless excited about Friday’s Winter Warmer.
We’re excited to share fantastic new chamber music and immersive electroacoustic sound worlds in an intimate venue where you can actually meet some of the composers. We’re also grateful to be joined by special guest, Rested Field, an experimental trio from Boston of whom our clarinetist Chuck is a member.
Volness and Richman do hope to return to town this February.
Note the new venue at 159 Sutton Street. From the Art in Ruins entry (commenters are particularly illuminating):
. . . displaying a robust monumentality through oversized eclectic architectural detail while retaining the formal symmetry of a mansard roof with a central pavilion and spire (since removed). Distinctly Moorish in flavor, the surface is replete with carved granite, polychromed tiles, and a rose window. The central pavilion formerly contained a clock and was topped by a tall spire, stressing its verticality.
