Lots on the calendar at this neighborhood library: chess club (age 8+) meets every Thursday at 6pm; reading and homework help every day; U.S. Census job info (Tuesday, January 21, 1pm to 4pm); intro to phone repair* on January 23rd; queer umbrella class meets Thursdays; intro to Dungeons & Dragons on January 29th; and free ESL beginners class starts January 27th!
The Washington Park Library is housed in a charming old brick fire house where you can also find books, computers, printers, and Wi-Fi. Let’s hear it for modern librarians — sooooo much is expected of them these days.
Seen here is an outdoor reading nook. The mural by AS220 Youth includes references to Lovecraft, Roger Williams, and Fire Hose 18. (The joint was jumping when I visited but we don’t take pictures of other people’s children. The kids were fun and very polite.)
*”Check it out as we open up and work on an actual phone! Special Bonus: You will get to enjoy an easy to prepare vegan snack. All materials provided. Recommended for ages 14 and up.”
