This new addition to the Martin Luther King Jr. canon focuses on that famous speech. From the NYT review,
There have been dozens of picture books about Martin Luther King, Jr. Do we really need another? Yes, if it’s illustrated by Jerry Pinkney and smartly narrows the focus to the writing and delivery of the “I Have a Dream” speech.
. . . Barry Wittenstein’s poetic text provides the cadences and repetition of a preacher, while Pinkney’s detailed, kinetic pencil and watercolor art incorporates bits of torn maps and sheet music and blurry period photos of marchers.
The book, for ages 7-10, is now available at the Stages of Freedom museum downtown where sales benefit swim lessons for low-income youth through the Swim Empowerment Program. (Closed on Sunday and Monday).
Tuesday thru Saturday, Stages of Freedom, 10 Westminster Street, (directions)
