(2.21) Get ready to hear about how his car got stolen back in the day here in Providence. Fans of Maron’s podcast, WTF with Marc Maron, may remember his interviews with John Dwyer of Thee Oh Sees and Mike Watt* of the Minutemen. Maron brings up the stolen car both times. Let’s see if he has gotten over it this Friday when he brings the “Marc Maron: Hey, There’s More Tour” to the Columbus Theatre.
Maron’s career has followed an uneven path, finally gaining traction a few years ago with the podcast he broadcast from his garage. It became such a cool place to hang that even President Obama stopped by. This led to four seasons of his excellent show Maron on IFC, the popular GLOW on Netflix, and even some voice work on Metalocalypse. And a part in “Joker.” But he never stopped touring. This man has been honing his craft for decades. Friday should be a great time.
Let’s just buy him a new car.
$40-$45, doors 7pm, show 8pm, Friday, February 21, Columbus Theatre, 270 Broadway, (directions)
*You don’t have to be a fan of the Minutemen to enjoy this insane interview, but buckle up. Watt’s mouth struggles to keep up with his brain as he unloads a torrent of anecdotes from the old Boston music scene as well as the rest of his life. Maron barely needed to be there. Dwyer is fun too — lots of local chitchat.
