‘Great Streets’ Info At Brooklyn Coffee

(3.3) Councilman David Salvatore (Wanskuck/Smith Hill) and the Providence Dept. of Planning and Development will host a meeting to discuss Mayor Elorza’s PVD Great Streets initiative and receive input from neighbors regarding safety improvements in the Wanskuck and Smith Hill neighborhoods. Learn more about safety improvements proposed to make our streets safer, more accessible, and easier to use for everyone, whether you are walking, riding a bicycle, or driving.

What’s proposed: Safety improvements along the Upper Dean Street/Raymond Street corridor between the Woonasquatucket River and Smith Street including crosswalk improvements and a two-way urban trail (including an off-road portion through Davis Park); safety improvements along Douglas Avenue including crosswalks and bike lanes.

So far the Great Streets improvements on Clifford St. have ripped the oil pan off one unsuspecting driver’s car … and caused another driver to take down a curbside tree… and provided a lot of laffs for pedestrians watching cars driving up the bike lanes. No worries: only one bike has been seen on these multi-thousand dollar “safety” measures in the couple months they’ve been in place.
