Button Hole Golf Course Now Open

Here’s another option for getting some exercise and fresh air as the weather finally cooperates — the Button Hole Golf Course. According to RI Monthly:

Several precautions are already in place: Masks must be worn while playing, and Button Hole will be enforcing social distancing to keep golfers safe during this time. Golfers must also bring their own clubs, and no clubs will be rented out. Driving range hitting bays and courses are limited to the number of people allowed on them at once. Only Rhode Island residents are allowed on premises and proof of Rhode Island residency is required. No out of state cars will be allowed in the parking lot.

The Button Hole short course and teaching center is a non-profit public golf facility that welcomes people of all abilities. This has been a tough year: In addition to the Covid-19 restrictions, a fire last March caused extensive damage to the clubhouse. All this has put a dent in their 20th anniversary celebration, but they are rebuilding. According to WPRI, executive director Don Wright projects a six month time-frame for getting the building up and running again, perhaps with some upgrades.

The annual kids ‘Drive, Chip, and Putt’ challenge is on hold for now.
