Apply Now — Dexter Donation Grants

It’s that time of year again. The Commissioners of Dexter Donation will be receiving proposals from organizations requesting grants to assist the low income residents of the city. Applications must be received by the City Clerk no later than 4pm, Friday, April 23, 2021.

The Dexter Donation is a trust established in 1824 under the will of Ebenezer Knight Dexter “to ameliorate the condition of the poor, and to contribute to their comfort and relief.” The income from the trust is distributed to eligible non-profit organizations by a Board of Commissioners elected by residents of the City of Providence in accordance with the will of Ebenezer Knight Dexter.

This eight-foot bronze statue is one of the few known works of local sculptor Hippolyte L. Hubert. It stands at the north end of the Dexter Training Ground, property Dexter bequeathed to the city.

For instructions on submitting a proposal, go to Dexter Donation Proposal.

  1. That Dexter statue enjoys my highest regard simply for depicting a man holding something other than a gun or sword.
