‘Open Air Saturdays’ Begin Downtown

The Small Point Cafe is ready for early visitors as Westminster Street prepares to celebrate the Mayor’s ‘Downtown is Open’ campaign. The businesses on Westminster Street have revived ‘Open Air Saturdays’ which helped them survive last summer. The street will be closed off to traffic, and live music and food trucks will liven up the scene. From In DownCity:

Each Saturday from 12 – 6 p.m., Westminster Street will close to vehicle traffic between Eddy and Union streets, providing more space for pedestrians to take to the street for socially distanced shopping and dining.

Participating businesses along Westminster Street include Craftland, Queen of Hearts, Modern Love, Small Point Cafe, Sura, Symposium Books & Records, Oberlin, Kleos, The Vault Collective, Civil, Homestyle, and Eno Fine Wines & Spirits.

Other nearby restaurants offering takeout or outdoor dining include The Malted Barley, Rosalina, Gracie’s, Tori Tomo, Figidini, Bolt, North, Durk’s BBQ, Trinity Brewhouse, and the newest addition to the neighborhood, Kin Southern Table & Bar. Trinity Beer Garden in Biltmore Park (across from The Graduate hotel) will also be open for the season. Browse more downtown business operations over on our map.

Several restaurants in the surrounding area — Gracie’s, Murphy’s, Kin Southern Table, Providence Eagle, Rosalina’s — are also participating. Walk around. More info at the ProJo.

The Mayor has announced other initiatives to encourage more commercial activity including the waiving of city fees associated with special events and extending 2-hours of free parking at meters in designated business corridors (downtown through 2021, from 10am to 9pm). And Federal Hill will soon be reviving last summer’s successful ‘Al Fresco on the Hill.’

Beginning May 14th, Atwells Avenue will be closed to vehicle traffic each Friday and Saturday evening. Over 20 restaurants and retailers have already signed on to participate.
