The city broke ground last week for a major new project creating a new entrance to Roger Williams Park on Broad Street. I’m not sure where exactly this event took place as the current entrance seems undisturbed. This photo proves I was on Broad Street, but the scene shown on abc6 news does not look similar.
The ProJo references “blighted lots” and I can’t see where they are.
On Tuesday the city broke ground on the project which will turn blighted lots into what has been dubbed the Gateway. It will feature picnic areas, concessions, ticket sales, a play area, public restrooms and event space.
Here is the Google street view — see if you can spot the blighted lots. I see only trees. I’m not trying to start a fight — I’m just confused. It must be a location somewhere else on Broad Street?
The statement from the Mayor’s Office explains how the funding came together:
The project received financial support from the Providence Redevelopment Agency, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, the Federal American Rescue Plan Act and RI Housing’s Property Acquisition and Revitalization Program.
Hooray for public restrooms.

I’m sorry but it’s clear where the blighted lots are. Look at the Google Street View for 1194 Broad St and you’ll see a graffiti covered restaurant that has been closed since at least 2007 in an otherwise vacant lot that has been. I think thats pretty blighted.
Go to Google Maps. Enter Roger Williams Park. Click on satellite view. You will see north of the current entrance Roto Rooter Clean Up etc. Click on it. The blighted lots are there. Alternatively click on Aldrich St street view. The blighted lots are across the street parkside.
