Go Friars!

[Update: While Kansas prevailed 66-61, the Friars turned it on in the second half and gave everyone a great game, taking the lead at one point. Well done Friars and thank you Coach Ed Cooley.]  Congratulations to the Providence College Friars men’s basketball team for making it to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament for the first time in 25 years. This Friday they face off against the University of Kansas Jayhawks in Chicago at 7:29pm ET. WPRI spoke to head coach Ed Cooley:

“I’m proud to say this group, being mature as it is, did and has left their ego at the door for the better of the team,” Cooley said. “I think our team is much greater than its individual parts, and I think that’s why we are here.”

I love Friar Dom’s enigmatic . . .  I want to say . . . smile? What an unsettling presence.

Tipoff is scheduled for 7:29pm, ET. Watch the game on TBS or stream using the March Madness Live app.

(The ProJo has an interesting walk down memory lane.)
