WaterFire Arts Center Joins Gallery Night

TroopTop Thursdays (TTT) return this week at the WaterFire Arts Center as part of the Gallery Night Providence trolley tours. Every third Thursday of the month, from April to August, visitors are invited to experience the current exhibit as the sun sets on the TroopTop Deck, from 5pm to 9pm, with TroopPVD providing food and drink.

The event is rain-or-shine, (we’ll move inside if it rains), and guests can expect a rotating selection of local beer, wine, and spirits at the bar as well as a new “Bacon & Booze Bar” and a “Gorilla Bar Menu” provided by Troop.

The first TTT will be in partnership with Millennial Rhode Island who will be hosting a “Space and Chill Spring Social” networking event for young professionals across Rhode Island ($10). (This week the rooftop bar will move inside the Main Hall under the 23-foot sculpture of the Earth.)

While the giant globe (Luke Jerram’s Gaia) is the big draw, over a dozen artists are represented in the Planet Earth exhibit. The final day of the show is Sunday, May 1.

TTT dates: April 21, May 19, June 16, July 21, August 18. Tons of free parking.

The WaterFire Arts Center’s hours: Wednesday to Sunday, 10am – 5pm; open late until 9pm on Thursdays and Fridays. (The addition of Friday nights is unique to the Planet Earth exhibit.)

Free admission, Thursday, April 21, WaterFire Arts Center, 475 Valley Street, (directions)

Seen below is Algae Bloom (handmade paper, printed and pulp painted, glass) by Rhode Island-based artist Joan Hall. Take a close look; it’s quite beautiful.
