RISD Craft Fair — Benefit Street

(6.4) The annual RISD Craft Fair will be taking over two blocks of Benefit Street, between Waterman and Hopkins, this Saturday. Look for ceramics, furniture, fine art (2D and 3D), glass, apparel, jewelry, textiles, stationery, and paper goods.

Seen here in center is the work of John Ha (2001, BFA printmaking) who creates images using multi-layers of mixed media techniques. Check out Ha Factory for some installations with impact.

The pottery is from Dwo Wen Chen (1989, Art Education) of Three Wheel Studio right here in Providence. He works primarily in stoneware and was last year’s ‘People’s Choice’ winner.

Check the event website for a list of all artists.

This is a good time to avoid driving around the colleges on the East Side. Last weekend was Brown, this weekend will be RISD. There are plenty of lost, out-of-state license plates weaving about. Worst are the rental trucks who are not only lost but driving a truck for the first time ever.

Having said all that — the students have been known to leave some good stuff behind on the sidewalks when they leave. Pickers generally ride around in the mornings.

Free, 10am to 4pm, Saturday, June 4, Benefit Street, (directions)
