This Won’t End Abortion

It just makes it more dangerous. Today’s devastating Supreme Court decision overturning Roe v. Wade has the country in turmoil. States are now free to outlaw abortion — states with trigger laws have already done so. This is the same “pro-life” Supreme Court that just decided that states can not regulate guns in any way.

I can not really collect myself to write a coherent think piece. Here are some random thoughts:

~Kavanaugh and Gorsuch lied to the Senate under oath. (Daily Beast)

~The utterly compromised Justice Thomas writes in this decision that we should revisit contraception and same-sex marriage. (Politico)

~The November elections are crucial. More so in other states of course, but we can contribute to candidates in important races.) Pence is already calling for a national abortion ban. Legislators, governors, secretaries of state — educate yourself on each and every position. Ask every single candidate where they stand on a woman’s right to body autonomy.

~Tim Blankenship is one of the original Daily Dose founders, my friend, and the tech genius who keeps this blog up and running, but he rarely if ever contributes content. But today’s news changed all that. He obviously knew I would be working on something a little more substantive, and he wrote me saying that I could take it down if I wanted. But damn it . . . I feel exactly the same way! And men should be just as furious and anxious as the women in their lives. And gay marriage may now be in the crosshairs. This is a human rights issue. Thank you Tim!

~ How to help pregnant women trapped in the bad states. Donate to a network of abortion funds who provide funding, travel, lodging, and other wrap-around support. Charity Navigator says “give with confidence.”

~Expand the Supreme Court. U.S. Rep. David Cicilline recently a cosponsor of the Judiciary Act of 2021, which would add four more justices to the court, expanding it from nine members to 13. (WPRI)

What can you do today? The Womxn Project and Women’s Fund of RI have planned a demonstration for tonight at the state house.

Rally & Call to Action, 8pm, Friday, June 24, State House, Smith Street, (directions)
