(9.17) Books on the Square will be holding their 30th Anniversary Party this Saturday with raffles, giveaways, games, cookies, and cupcakes. Store personnel have made plans for keeping things lively. “The independent bookstore for independent minds” is celebrating 30 years in business.
Adult Trivia: Starting at noon, at the top of each hour, Stephen will recruit players to join in on a round of questioning. This will be the same format which worked so well on Independent Bookstore Day.
Blind Date with a Book: The store gets advanced reading copies of books, but they can only read so many. So they wrap up the extras, write a short synopsis on the outside of each book, and people get to pick a book based on that synopsis. It could be a recent popular release or something more obscure.
For Kids: More trivia, and a crafts section will be set up for making party hats . . . because it’s a birthday party.
(Books on the Square has a major juvenile section with board books, chapter books, picture books, middle-grade fiction, YA, and graphic novels.)
An exciting new item will be premiered on this anniversary — a new ‘Books on the Square’ T-shirt, made of a soft cotton-poly blend.
BOTS mask protocols? “We strongly encourage all customers to wear a mask regardless of vaccination status. Masks are required for unvaccinated adults. Thank you!”
Anniversary Party, 10am to 8pm, Saturday, September 17, BOTS, 471 Angell Street, (directions)

Look up! In 2013, children’s book author and illustrator Mark Teague — the Dear Mrs. LaRue series, Funny Farm, Doom Machine, The Three Little Pigs and the Somewhat Bad Wolf — installed the dinosaur mural above the rear window.
