Chazan Art Sale — Opening Reception

(6.15) An opening reception for the exhibition and sale from the private art collection of Dr. Joseph Chazan takes place Thursday on Sims Avenue. Proceeds will benefit The Steel Yard. Chazan’s support of local artists, and institutions like AS220 and the Steel Yard, have made him a beloved figure in the Providence arts community, even becoming the subject of a wonderful graphic novel. (This image, by artist Erminio Pinque, is from that work, and not necessarily part of this show.)

This sale features over 80 works from 50 featured artists, including Howard Ben Tre, Boris Bally, Dale Chihuly, Dave Allyn, Scott Lapham, Neal Walsh, Mark Freedman, and Sal Mancini. Dr. Chazan issued this statement:

The Steel Yard is a special place that allows people of all backgrounds and skill levels to learn and access tools for art-making. Supporting RI artists has always been a priority for me, so I collected a lot of their work over the years. Now I am sponsoring this show as a way of providing further exposure to these artists and expanding The Steel Yard’s offerings with the proceeds.

This event will be held in the “same complex as Revival Brewery but across the courtyard side entrance.”

Opening reception, 6pm to 8pm, Thursday, June 15, 50 Sims Avenue, (directions)

  1. Anyone know who is organizing this sale? Also, will there be ongoing hours to view the sale or just Thursday 6-8pm only?
