Sunday In The Park With Red Baraat

(7.23) The FirstWorks Summer Beats Concerts are back. This Sunday head over to the bandstand in Roger Williams Park for Red Baraat, future funk with a world beat. And it’s free.

Bhangra funk is the explosive, multicultural dance music of the next generation and Red Baraat are its undisputed kings. This seven-piece “dhol n’ brass” outfit has been hailed as “the best party band in years” by NPR and “a big band for the world” by the Wall Street Journal. Conceived by dhol player Sunny Jain, the group has drawn worldwide accolades for its singular sound, a merging of hard-driving North Indian bhangra with elements of hip-hop, jazz and raw punk energy.

But wait there’s more. Starting at 5pm, check out the ‘Sparkle Motion: DIY Ribbon Dancer’ workshop.

Get your festival on at the free FirstWorks craft table by the Roger Williams Park Bandstand! Eco-friendly face glitter will be available as well as an easy ribbon-dancer craft workshop. All ages are welcome for this pre-concert event starting at 5 p.m.

Performance runs from 6pm to 8pm. Bring on the dhol!
