Oberlin Open

The new Oberlin is now open on Grant’s Block, just across the street from its original location. The restaurant now includes a connected seafood sidekick, Gift Horse, with raw bar. Chef/owner Ben Sukle, a Johnson & Wales grad and multiple James Beard Foundation “Best Chef Northeast” Award nominee, has been garnering accolades for years. In 2016, Bon Appétit named Oberlin the seventh best new restaurant its first year of business:

As masterful as Sukle is with the raw, his skills with the cooked—especially house-made pasta—may be more transcendent. Pillowy gnocchi with littlenecks in a chive-flecked broth (the only clam chowder I’ll ever crave) should be inducted into the better-than-the-original hall of fame. The pici with pork ragù would make any nonna seethe with envy. At Oberlin, Italian-American cooking gets reinvented.

Recipes from that time are included in the article, including cavatelli with pork ragù with spicy breadcrumbs. Don’t know whether that dish is still on the menu, but it’s all good.

Open Thursday thru Monday at 5pm. Walk-ins welcome. Follow on IG.
