POP Emporium will be hosting an evening of stories and songs with Peter Jesperson, author of “Euphoric Recall: A Half Century as a Music Fan, Producer, Dj, Record Executive, and Tastemaker.” Tickets go on sale Friday at noon; the event is December 9. Jesperson was the founding manager of the seminal alternative rock band The Replacements and co-founder of Twin/Tone Records. (Tickets sold out. We warned you.)
In 1980 [Jesperson] discovered and signed The Replacements, soon becoming their manager and going on to to co-produce their first four albums. Other notable signings include Curtiss A, The Suburbs and Soul Asylum. In 1983 he became interim tour manager for his GA buddies R.E.M.
And it goes on from there. I’m guessing he’s got lots of good stories by now. POP has a great evening planned: Q&A with writer Dean Budnick, followed by a live performance with former Replacements bass player, Tommy Stinson and his Cowboys in the Campfire.
Stinson recently joined Deer Tick for a show at the Columbus and those tickets went pretty fast. Follow at FB.
