195 West Bypass Lanes Open!

Good news for commuters, schools, businesses and everybody, on both sides of the river! The bypass lanes on the Washington Bridge have been opened a day ahead of schedule. We can be particularly happy for our East Providence neighbors who were so severely impacted from the closure. From WPRI:

This temporary traffic pattern will allow two lanes of travel westbound and two lanes of travel eastbound — all on the eastbound side of the Washington Bridge.

Most ramps that had been closed will re-open, however, the Gano Street off-ramp (Exit 1D) and the on-ramps to I-195 West from Veterans Memorial Parkway and Taunton Avenue will remain closed.

Keep in mind, prior to the closure, there had been three and four lanes open in this area. So this does not get the traffic patterns back to normal and rush hour will still be slow. But this is great news!

And big thanks to all those who worked overtime, and into the night, to get this done.
