Blood Donors Needed

January is National Blood Donor Month, established back in 1970 by then President Nixon. The American Red Cross even has Super Bowl tickets for some lucky (January) donor. From America’s Blood Centers:

  • 3% of Americans currently donate blood despite 65 percent of the population being eligible to do so. Additionally, less than 20 percent of blood donations come from individuals in communities of color.
  • Nearly 7 million people selflessly give blood every year, serving as a lifeline for countless individuals in need.
  • Every two seconds, someone in America needs a blood transfusion.

This could be you some day. Hell, this could be you later today!

So make an appointment now at the Rhode Island Blood Center. Never done it before? Here’s what to expect. It doesn’t take long — 15 minutes or so — and then they give you Nilla wafers and juice.

The American Red Cross reports, “We are facing an emergency blood shortage, with the lowest number of people giving blood in 20 years.” They are partnering with the NFL to offer this enticement:

Come to give Jan. 1-31, 2024, to automatically be entered to win a trip for two to Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas, as our thank you for helping during the critical post-holiday time!

The winner and guest will get to enjoy Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas, access to day-of in-stadium pre-game activities, tickets to the official Super Bowl Experience, round-trip airfare to Las Vegas, three-night hotel accommodations (Feb. 9-12, 2024), plus a $1,000 gift card for expenses.
