Own A Piece Of History

(2.14) Fans of weiners, wieners, and vintage signage will soon have an opportunity to bid on pieces of the original Olneyville System sign. Installed in 1954, the old sign was removed in July of 2021 from the building for renovation. By that time its condition had deteriorated beyond repair and an all-new sign was fabricated and installed in 2022. Owner Greg Stevens has cut the old one into six pieces, five of which he will soon be offering for sale on eBay with all proceeds going to benefit the Rhode Island Community Food Bank. So he’s a good guy.

On or about February 5th, we will be listing these 5 panels from our original sign separately on the eBay Charity site where 100% of all winning proceeds will be donated directly to the Rhode Island Community Food Bank.

The two ‘New York System’ panels [seen here] are approximately 47″w by 34″h, the two ‘Eat’ panels are 23″w by 47″ h, and the one unframed ‘Hot Weiners Sandwiches’ panel is 50″ w by 30″h. The original sign has been cut into

The ProJo spoke with Mr. Stevens:

These first five are the only beginning. The second Hot Wieners Sandwiches sign is being held back from the first auction, which Stevens said he has “something else in mind for.”

The sign pieces will be listed for local pickup, but Stevens will arrange shipping at winning bidders expense.

[Update: The auctions have ended with one piece going for $6,050! To learn more about the auction go the ProJo.]
