First date is this Saturday. We all know that household hazardous waste and toxic chemicals must be disposed of properly, that’s why they keep piling up. So start attacking the super-fund site you call a garage, now. Please note the new address on Allens Avenue; it is now further south at the intersection of Ernest Street. This is the Providence Public Works building — let’s assume there will be signs directing you to a new site nearby. (An East Providence date has been included; it’s nearby.) Hours of operation are Saturdays, 8am to noon, rain or shine:
March 23, DPW, 700 Allens Avenue
July 27, East Prov DPW, 60 Commercial Way
October 19, DPW, 7oo Allens Avenue
December 7, DPW, 7oo Allens Avenue
You must register and make an appointment with the Rhode Island Resource Recovery Corporation (RIRRC).
Appointments are required for this event. Eco-Depots are free collections for properly disposing of household hazardous waste from RI households. Household hazardous waste is anything labeled with a skull and crossbones, or words like ‘toxic’, ‘poison’, ‘flammable’, ‘combustible’, etc. Examples include mercury devices, automotive fluids, fertilizers, pesticides, pool chemicals, and polishes. Appointments are made to prevent everyone from showing up at once, which reduces wait time in line.
They also accept paints, antifreeze, batteries, long fluorescent light tubes, even sharps and needles.
In our experience, this operation has moved along very efficiently. The workers will wave you in and direct you to the tables. Stay in your car. (However . . . it’s not clear if the same organization is conducting the operation or if the city has taken over.)
Free, 8am to noon, Saturday, March 23, Eco-Depot, 700 Allens Avenue, (directions)
