‘Ben Miller’s Stand-Up Science’ At AS220 Black Box

(3.30) Ben Miller is a New York City-based scientist* and stand-up comedian who has been performing for several years in front of the discerning crowds at the Broadway Comedy Club, Stand Up NY, Dangerfield’s, and Carolines. But those audiences are never allowed to bring lava into the clubs — Miller needed a challenge. So last year he took a stint as Artist in Residence at Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park, which is where a “top roast battler” might feel more at home. Nothing like a lava moat to keep the hecklers at bay.

I love both science and lava so this guy sounds promising. His comedy credentials also include a sold-out run at the 2022 Edinburgh Fringe Festival, a city that owes its existence to an ancient volcano system, so this may be a thing with him. We’ve probably got some basalt around here we could show him.

I’m not sure how much of his volcano material is in his current show, but I wanted to use the photo of lava. See for yourself this Saturday when “Ben Miller’s Stand-Up Science” takes over the AS220 Black Box Theatre. Recommended for ages 14+.

*Miller has a degree in materials science and engineering from Columbia University.

GA $10, 7pm to 8:30pm, Saturday, March 30, AS220 Black Box, 95 Empire Street, (directions)
