Monday Is 401Gives

It’s a date . . . it’s an area code . . . it’s a day for giving to local nonprofits. If your inbox did not explode this morning with suggestions, we have a few good ones:

The Rhode Island Community Food Bank will put your donation to good use; rising food costs have hit struggling families hard. Dorcas International is another organization with a stellar record and years of experience.

Help make our state safer from gun violence — donate to the Rhode Island Gun Violence Education Fund.

We can all rest a little more easily when Common Cause RI is keeping an eye on things.

Attention Men: Make a big big donation to Planned Parenthood of Southern New England. It will put you in good with the women in your life. It’s the least you can do.

And we all need music: Community MusicWorks is building a new community music center on Westminster Street.

Go to Charity Navigator to check the rating of your chosen organization. You want your money to help those in need, not pay for executive retreats. From the ProJo:

Starting at 6 a.m. April 1, the first $25,000 will be matched by the Rhode Island Foundation. There will be drawings, prizes and matches throughout the day.
