Bridge Impact Meeting At Nathan Bishop

(4.8) The city will be hosting a community meeting Monday at 5:30pm at Nathan Bishop Middle School to discuss its impact mitigation response to the closing of the westbound side of the Washington Bridge. Community members will be given an opportunity to speak.

Given the increase of travel times since the bridge closure, drivers are often opting to leave the state highways to travel along city streets throughout the city. . . In the weeks following the initial closure, RIDOT proactively made changes, supported by the City, to coordinate signal timing changes on the streets along the detour route from the Henderson Bridge, including South Angell Street, Angell Street and Gano Street to reduce congestion from the increased volume of traffic by increasing the length of light times.

. . . As part of these mitigation efforts, the Administration plans to remove the two-way protected bike path along South Water St and relocate the infrastructure to the raised sidewalk immediately adjacent to the existing bike path in order to restore the lanes of travel to two lanes, maintain a parking lane with adequate space and preserve bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure along South Water Street.

The school is on the corner of Sessions and Elmgrove Avenue across from the football stadium.

Bridge meeting, 5:30pm, Monday, April 8, Nathan Bishop School, 101 Sessions Street, (directions)
