RISD Senior Shows At Woods-Gerry

This is what greeted people last week as they entered the Woods-Gerry Gallery. The first group of graduating sculpture students did not disappoint; the second sculpture group starts Friday, April 12. Seen here is “A fool’s paradise” (aluminum, tin, leather) by Ruyi Xu. In back to the right is the excellent “Lot’s Wife” (salt, mixed media) by Ellis Tim Ringle. And those charcoal works on the wall were pretty great too.

Unknown whether Group 2 has mounted an equally strong show, but it’s free to find out and you never can tell what awaits on the other side of the door.

Museum hours: Friday, Saturday & Monday, 10am to 5pm/ Sunday, 2pm to 5pm/ Tuesday, 10am to 4pm. Closed Wednesday & Thursday.

The reception the night before on Thursday is usually a boisterous student party — particularly in the warm weather when it spills out on the terrace; these can be fun to attend but are not ideal for viewing the work. Each show is pulled down at the end of Tuesday.

Coming up: April 12-16, Sculpture 2/ April 19-23, Furniture Design. Go here for complete schedule and gallery info.
