Meet the Artists At PPL

(5.8) Head down to the Providence Public Library Wednesday for a chance to meet and celebrate the artists behind the four exhibitions currently on view on the library’s third floor. While all the exhibitions were planned separately, they serendipitously share some creative DNA. Learn more about their work, and experience their generative inspirations and connections.

Jacques Bidon — Rhode Island Creatives Show/Carl Jung Series (up through May 10)

Allison Bianco — Stand to Sea (up through June 30)

Becci Davis & Kei Soares Cobb — From Hold to Horizon (up through June 25)

(Artist Amos Paul Kennedy can not attend and will be represented by printer Dan Wood.)

Seen here is a tiny detail from Bianco’s “Stand to Sea,” a monumental six-foot copper plate etching “evoking watery worlds through the lens of maritime artwork traditions.” (Intalgio, screen print, glow-in the dark ink diptych: 36 x 72 inches overall)

The rising sea of mythic proportions in the print comes in the form of seven waves that travel over hundreds of years, past whales and whaling ships, from the edges of faraway oceans to the Atlantic, where they reach land at the Point Street Bridge in Providence, Rhode Island on September 21, 1938.

Meet the artists, free, 5pm to 6:30pm, Wednesday, May 8, third floor, PPL, 150 Empire Street, (directions)
