Two State Beaches Opening

The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (DEM) announces that Scarborough North and Roger Wheeler state beaches in Narragansett will be open Saturdays and Sundays only, weather permitting, from Saturday, May 11 until Memorial Day to accommodate early beachgoers. The water temperature is about 51 degrees.

The DEM will have lifeguards on duty — and the bathrooms and amenities will be open — on weekends at both beaches starting Saturday, May 11.

Beach entrances accept cash, credit cards, or Apple Pay only for daily parking fees. Please have your payment method ready as you pull up to the attendant to help keep traffic moving.

You are urged to purchase your season beach passes online ahead of time. Season passes are not for sale at state beach entrance booths which keeps things moving along in the parking lots. But you can make this purchase nearby:

Along with the online option, state beach season parking passes may be purchased in person at the Scarborough South State Beach overflow lot on the weekends of May 11 & 12 and May 18 & 19 from 8:30am to 3:30pm, then Monday through Friday at the same hours starting Tuesday, May 28 through Friday, August 9. Season passes are not for sale at state beach entrance booths.

State beaches will officially be open daily from Saturday, May 27 — the traditional start of the summer outdoor recreation season — until Labor Day.
