Porchfest Returns — East Side

(6.8) Good news music fans: the second annual Providence Porchfest takes place this Saturday from noon to 6pm, rain or shine. Once again the East Side of Providence will come alive with the sounds of local musicians playing on porches across the city for a free, family friendly afternoon. Last year’s inaugural event was so much fun that fans demanded another run, and clearly some of the porches begged for a repeat.

For instance, seen here is the Humboldt Avenue porch from last year. They have re-upped as have some of those same musicians. Amino Acid, Dullard Brothers and Sarah Donner will be returning this year along with Scapeghost, grizzlies, Beth Killian, StarBath, and Molly O’Leary who have been added to the bill. And one of my favorites from last year (different porch), Al Tringali, will be performing his slack key and traditional Hawaiian folk music at 4:45pm.

Yes the event is free, but fill your pockets with lots of folding money for throwing in the hats, kettles, and buckets. You will want to contribute.

And if you live across the city somewhere — get over here.

Kudos to whoever designed the website with its List of Performers and Map of Porches. Well done.

Free, Providence Porchfest, noon to 6pm, Saturday, June 8

Last year I bumped into this de facto street party. I believe it was on Methyl Street and it looks like it was a big hit as no fewer than seven porches have signed on for this year. Methyl is exactly one block long. Sounds interesting.

  1. Really hoping to make this. Evening Sky, Chris Monti, Lisa Coutu, and Mark Cutler are on my go-see list, but there’s a whole lotta great acts as well.
