PrideFest And Parade

(6.15) Let’s not forget the reason for the season. The Stonewall Uprising was set off by one particular police raid on June 28, 1969, at the Stonewall Inn in Greenwich Village. The ensuing clashes between police and LGBTQ+ protesters stretched over six days and became a key turning point in the struggle for the civil rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender Americans. The site was designated a National Monument in June of 2016. (The Roger Williams National Memorial celebrates other NPS locations with these banners.)

It doesn’t hurt that June is a great time for getting outside and dancing and eating and drinking and parading about. The public is invited to join RI PRIDE this Saturday at their PrideFest and Parade!

PrideFest opens at 11:30am at District Park with vendors, food, and entertainment at the main stage etc. There will be a dedicated booze tent with eight full service bars and professional bartenders. Guests must be 21+ with a valid ID for entry.

Mainstage lineup starts at 11:30am. Rhode Island Pride is thrilled to announce the star-studded lineup for this year’s PrideFest with headlining performances by Grammy Award-winner Motown legend and the recent semi-finalist on the hit TV show, “The Masked Singer,” Thelma Houston, RuPaul’s Drag Race stars Yvie Oddly and Xunami Muse, and American Idol sensation Blake Lewis.

There will also be a Kids Zone from noon to 3pm “with engaging programming provided by the Providence Children’s Museum.”

Illuminated Night Parade steps off at 8pm from Washington and Empire Streets. The parade is viewable from many locations along Dorrance, Washington, and Weybosset Streets. The parade is a total gas!
