NecronomiCon Starts

It’s time for NecronomiCon, the international convention of weird fiction, art, and academia. Events run from August 15th to 18th, starting on Thursday with an opening ceremony at the First Baptist Church with Barnaby Evans and organ music, a thing at the AS220 Black Box, and a cool block party at the Red Door on Peck Street from 7pm to 11pm with live music and everything.

The return of our welcome block party, this year with local music acts Sharks Come Cruisin’ (shanty folk-punk!), The Deep Ones (weird horror surf rock), and Vudu Sister (eldritch witch-folk)!! There will be beers and cocktails by our sponsors and friends at The Red Door and Narragansett Brewery (including a special new beer just for the convention) as well as special foods and a very fitting carnival fire pit roast to feed your cultist belly.

The majority of the programming will be held at the Omni Hotel and The Graduate. There’s a lot on tap and I don’t want to mess it up, so go to the core programming page and start planning your weekend.

N.B. There is also the Extended Programming beginning on Wednesday, August 14th. This includes a pre-party at Narragansett Brewery as well as a group art exhibition, Ars Necronomica: A Portal into Bleakness and Wonder which is free and open to the general public and takes place at 65 Weybosset Street next to the Lovecraft Arts And Sciences Council.

The weekend includes panels, author readings, academic speakers, movies, walking tours, and the vendors hall. (Look for local genius sculptor Gage Prentiss.)
