(8.17) There’s a lot going on this weekend. NecronomiCon is in full swing and this week’s WaterFire will feature a special wakeskating exhibition — Wake the Flames — at the Waterplace Park Basin.
Red Bull will be having multiple activations during the evening for thrill seekers to enjoy. Brian Grubb, Raph Trinidad, and the Red Bull Wake Team kick off the evening with a never-before-seen wakeboarding exhibition, performing stunning tricks in the Basin from 8:10pm to 8:40pm.
Oh that’s right . . . activations. The evening will also feature the usual suspects: the origami master, living statues, starry starry night, and fire-spinning performances along the river and on the bows of the WaterFire wood boats. As always, there will be live music, beverages, and fried foods.
And introducing a new raffle!
The new FIRED UP 50/50 Raffle allows attendees the chance to win cash prizes while supporting a community event. How it will work, participants purchase tickets, and the total amount collected is split evenly between the raffle winner and WaterFire.
Hopefully this will help address the funding issues. From the folks at WaterFire:
Due to declining revenue from sponsorship, the long-term financial impacts caused by the pandemic and in an effort to reduce expenses, our summer WaterFire events will now end at 11pm instead of midnight. Thank you for understanding.
You can donate now or put some folding money in your pocket Saturday evening as you head down and drop a ten or a twenty into one of the buckets.
Ignition 7:42pm to 11pm, Saturday, August 17, WaterFire, North Main Street, (directions)

I must admit, I’m a little curious as to how this is going to work . . . hope it’s high tide.
