Hope Street ‘End Of Summer’ Block Party

(9.15) The Hope Street Merchants will be holding its rescheduled Block Party this Sunday, featuring family friendly entertainment, makers, artists, food trucks, beer, cocktails, and more. And this week the weather looks very promising.

On Sunday, September 15th, we’re hosting a big party on Hope Street in Providence and filling five full blocks with over 150 small businesses, bars, food trucks, restaurants, family activities, street performers, and a stage from The Parlour. The street will be closed to vehicles, and you’ll be able to roam the event with beer from Narragansett Beer and Moniker Brewery or a cocktail from The Industrious Spirit Co. and Topo Chico and shop, eat, and party with us from 11am to 5pm.

The Parlour has scheduled the following music:

Maddie McGill/ Sharks Come Cruisin/ Chloe/
The Stev Delmonico Duo/ Indira Trio/
I’m Not Crying, You’re Crying

(That last one is my new favorite band name.)

Organizers add this advice: Hope Street between Rochambeau and Fifth Street, as well as connecting side streets, will be completely closed to all vehicles from 6am to 7pm. If you can’t bike, walk, or bus down, you’ll be able to find plenty of parking in the area, just a short walk away.

The image here is “Hope” by Rhode Island artist Joanna Vespia. The mural was commissioned by the Summit Neighborhood Association in partnership with The Avenue Concept, with help from Not Just Snacks Restaurant and Eden Cleaners. The sunflower planting in front is integrating nicely.

The text is a poignant ode to the cartographically and emotionally accurate 1970’s Mad Peck poster which you can probably still buy at Frog & Toad. Maybe the postcard version.
