Ghost Tours In Town

Providence has two types of ghost tours to choose from: You can ride on the river with the Haunted Boat Rides or walk on the sidewalks with the Providence Ghost Tours. Why not do both.

The Providence River Boat Company has been conducting the Haunted Boat Rides for several years now and they have yet to lose a single soul.

Surrounded by the moonlit bridges, cobblestone walkways and century-old architecture of downtown Providence, you will hear stories of our capital city’s “dearly-deceased-but-not-so-departed” residents; local literary giants and humble servants alike; their restless souls still stirring among the living. Climb aboard…they’ve been waiting for you!

Be advised: “All passengers, including infants, must have a reservation to board. Our vessels are inspected by the United States Coast Guard and we cannot have more than (17) passengers aboard at one time, regardless of age . . . Because our boats were built specifically for us to be able to navigate under the bridges throughout downtown, they are not wheelchair accessible.” You may also BYOB on all the tours.

They consider this tour appropriate for children 8+. You know your kid. (Keep in mind that the other guests want to hear the tour guide and not have to sit next to some whiny, bored kid playing video games.)

Folklore by Firelight: Saturday, October 26th, is a WaterFire night. At the time of this writing, it appears that there are still tickets available for the 6pm and 9:30pm boat tours. The other times seem to be booked already, but check for yourself . . . there could be people rescheduling.

And please check out the cancellation policy.

Landlubbers may prefer The Providence Ghost Tours. These guides all have theater backgrounds and they have been doing this for several years now. (These women do double-duty as guides on the boat tours.) And they have added a new Haunted Benefit Street tour. The tours begin and end at Prospect Terrace Park.

Allow our guides to lead you by lantern light as we introduce you to Providence’s longest-lingering residents. As we creep among the shadows, we walk in the footsteps of local literary giants and humble servants alike, their restless souls still stirring among the living. Learn the tales that keep college students at Brown University and RISD jumping out of their beds at night as we weave history and mystery into a fine tapestry of spine-tingling delight.

While the risk of drowning is minimal, the PGT people have added this disclaimer: “We cannot be held responsible for any haunting, soul possession, or poltergeist activity endured before, during, or after the tour.”

But wear sensible shoes!
