Steel Yard ‘Iron Pour’

(11.2) It’s time for the famous Steel Yard Iron Pour. Over the years the event has expanded into a street fair up and down Sims Avenue, but this event is still like no other. It’s hard to describe, but it involves molten metal, glowing white hot, with sparks flying, all being wrangled by faceless beings in the night. The initial years of unsupervised and reckless abandon finally caught the attention of the fire department who insisted they had a role to play going forward. So it is safer now . . . if a little less fun.

Come join us at The Steel Yard for our 19th Annual Iron Pour & Sims Avenue Festival! This fiery event promises to be a night filled with excitement and spectacle. Explore the street festival and enjoy live music, delicious food, watch some fire-art demonstrations, and browse the work of over 20 local artists and makers! Once the fires are in full swing, watch as sculptures and props are brought to life with molten metals right before your eyes!

The theme this year is the Cosmic Zodiac. This image from a prior occasion was found at the Steel Yard FB page and perfectly illustrates the unique nature of this event. Is there anything like this happening anywhere else?

Admission is pay what you can. Suggested donation is $5 to $15, but no one is turned away for lack of funds. RSVP here.

Iron Pour, 1pm to 7pm, Saturday, November 2, Steel Yard, 27 Sims Avenue, (directions)
