(11.9) Update: I stopped by this afternoon and found the Providence Drum Troupe founder and executive director, David Black, and director of administration, Natalie Hogan, preparing for tomorrow night’s opening reception. They were kind enough to show me around and what a great space this is. Upon entering one finds a large wire kinetic sculpture on wheels (see below), powered by a tiny man pedaling away. In addition to the expected PDT drums, one finds sculptures, paintings, and photography all about, hence the name of the space going forward: The Clubhouse Gallery. So what have we here? Mr. Black explained:
It’s many things . . . it’s a maker space, it’s a gallery, there’s going to be dancing workshops, anything you can think of art-wise is gonna happen here.
So join the Providence Drum Troupe Saturday for a fun night of music, art, and community at the PDT Clubhouse on Atwells Avenue. The Warehouse Gala promises to be a “weird and wonderful” fundraiser for this diverse band of illuminated musicians, giant puppetry, flow artists, and dancers. This is the majorly percussive and kinetic gang of performers who frequent the pedestrian bridge.
The Clubhouse is just a few doors down from Gather Glass and Nolan’s Pub.
Tickets are $10 but you are free to add on a little more. (Honk, the big pink puppet, is ready to accept your donations.)
Musical guests Saturday night will be the Superchief Trio and Sound of Gravity.
Gala, 6pm to 10pm, Saturday, November 9, PDT Clubhouse, 517 Atwells Avenue, (directions)

‘Journey’ by David A. Lang. The tiny man inside appears to be powering the whole contraption. Delicate white wings flap above.

A three-panel mural by Umberto Crenca is flanked on either side by multi-media “bobble-heads.” These are the work of AS220 founding member Susan Clausen, the wife of Mr Crenca. Cast glass torsos lean against the wall towards the back.
