Just use the rear entrance. The crew aims to have construction finished in time for St. Patrick’s Day, but no matter what, they will be open. (See below for how to make a reservation.) McBride’s Irish Pub is attached to the former Monahan’s funeral home on the corner, which is still scheduled for demolition I believe. Grrr.
We first wrote about McBride’s when it opened in 2011, when the two businesses were indeed linked. That post has the background story of how a trip to Ireland inspired the funeral home owners to turn the unused garage space into a pub.
I stopped by and spoke with the contractor, John Pettinelli, who described the upcoming changes; he was kind enough to send in the rendering below. On the left you can see that some of the patio has given way to what he described as a four-seasons room. Note that the design of the facade clearly references the former garage doors . . . the garage where they kept the hearses.
The right side will remain patio with a standing counter for leaning, drinking, and watching the world go by.
You can access the back entrance from the Wayland Square parking lot which has entrances on Medway and Waterman. McBride’s validates for a 3 hour visit.
So head on in and order yourself a “6 Feet Under” or perhaps “A Good Stiff Drink” (a generous helping of Jameson’s Irish Whiskey that can help solve all your problems). And don’t miss their very special Last Call.
Sláinte!

Dem bones dem bones . . . . Back in the mid-1930’s the original owners decided to create a smoking room in the basement for the gentlemen; the decor included two stained glass windows with an ‘M’ for Monahan. They now frame the bar.
