The cavernous WaterFire Arts Center is just one of the venues playing host to the 11th annual FringePVD: The Providence Fringe Festival. The center is also home to local Fringe presenters, the Wilbury Theatre Group, who will be throwing an opening night reception there on Sunday. The schedule of performances will commence on Tuesday. From the ProJo:
Over the course of two weeks, July 14-27, patrons will discover a rich array of artistic ventures, most presented live and in person at 10 venues across the Valley Arts District, plus a couple that will be streamed via the internet.
As the name suggests, many of those performances are “boundary pushing,” Short says. Others are more traditional, such as short plays or stand-up comedy.
Go here to check the schedule and buy tickets. Or look through the artists and see who grabs your attention. We have to mention the return of local favorites, the Rhode Island Ukulele Armada, “with yet another questionable idea” this one featuring video and animation and puppets. (The posters for this event are quite good.)
The not too distant future: The Russians invade the U.S. but their flimsy knowledge of geography leaves one tiny state unoccupied. The commie bastards wake up to a . . . RHODE DAWN!!!
Some special Fringe events include:
Sunday, July 14, WFAC, Opening night reception.
Saturday, July 20, free and no tickets required, Sims Avenue Fest and Family Fringe.
Saturday, July 27, closing night party at Buttonwoods Brewery.
FringePVD, July 14 to July 27, assorted venues in the Valley Arts District, (WFAC directions)
