This plaque hangs on the side of the Federal Courthouse building downtown. Three months later Lincoln won his party’s nomination at the Republican National Convention in Chicago. He then went on to defeat Stephen A. Douglas in the November election, becoming the 16th President of the United States. The quote from the Cooper Union Address reads,
Let us have faith that right makes might, and in that faith, let us, to the end, dare to do our duty as we understand it.

But good for you. Maybe later she’ll appreciate the the import of the whole thing.
I dragged my daughter downtown this afternoon to check out the plaque. She was much less enthusiastic than I was.
