Ward 13 encompasses the neighborhoods of Federal Hill, the West End, and Downtown. Principe, 37, a Democrat, has served on the City Plan Commission since 1999. He has also been a leader in the effort to reopen the West Broadway Elementary School since the city’s controversial decision in 2007 to close the building and relocate to a different neighborhood.

According to Principe, “More than three years of advocacy, including the tireless work of neighbors, parents, teachers and community groups such as the West Broadway Neighborhood Association and the Providence Preservation Society, has secured a commitment by the school department to renovate and reopen the West Broadway Elementary School. By tapping into the creativity and passion of the neighborhood, we have the potential to create the highest performing schools in the entire City of Providence, right here on the West Side.”

The Principe campaign will focus on enhancing the livability and stability of the community with an emphasis on economic development and job creation, quality of life issues, top rate schools, and efficiency in government. On Monday, April 12th at 4:30 pm, Principe will announce his candidacy in front of the West Broadway Elementary School at 29 Bainbridge Avenue, Providence.
