Pride Month Performance June 29th 8:00 paired with new work by Leigh Hendrix

Hang on to your heterosexuality, because Butchy McDyke is back in Providence for one night only with How To Be A Lesbian in 10 Days or Less! Written and performed by Hendrix and directed by Peter Deffet, this hilarious coming out story and guide to gay for budding lesbians, no matter their sexual orientation, will be paired with scenes from Leigh Hendrix’s new work in progress Studies of a Story: You Just Need A Little Lipstick. Leigh Hendrix will present How To Be A Lesbian in 10 Days or Less at the 95 Empire Black Box on June 29th at 8:00.

How To Be A Lesbian in 10 Days or Less was developed at Emerson College and Perishable Theatre and performed in Providence, New York City, The New Orleans Fringe Festival, with Coastal Carolina University, and WAM Theatre’s O Solo Mama Mia Festival. Chris Rohman of The Valley Advocate said of the piece, “The magic of this show comes from its seamless marriage of pointed mockery with personal narrative…” calling Hendrix, “a delightfully surprising and witty performer.”

With the outrageous character of motivational speaker Butchy McDyke as a guide, Hendrix
leads the audience on a journey of self-discovery and first love, coming out, politics, and a really
important Reba McEntire song. Hendrix says she is interesting in performing the show again in Providence because,
“I’ve learned new things about the show and why I want people to hear this story through performing for different people in different places. I think it is very important for queer voices to tell queer stories directly to people in the room and it’s a lot of fun!”

Selections from Hendrix’s new project Studies of a Story: You Just Need A Little Lipstick, a solo play with movement about lipstick and mothers and the power of transformation, will also be performed and audience members are encouraged to join in a conversation about the work.

Hendrix is a Providence based queer performing artist who creates solo and with other artists of all shapes and sizes. She has performed at Perishable Theatre, with Theatre of Thought, DoubleShift Dance Theatre, and as a guest with The Empire Revue at AS220 and The Sweet Little Variety Show. She will be in residence at 95 Empire in September with Melissa Bowler and their two lady show Leigh and Melissa Present: Hamlette!
