The 2012 Rhode Island International Film Festival runs from August 7 through August 12, with opening night Tuesday at The Vets. Other Providence venues will include the Providence Public Library, Bell Chapel, the Paff Theater and Metcalf Auditorium. According to the ProJo,
This year’s festival is not just for viewing films either. There will be a one-day symposium Aug. 9 in the Biltmore Ballroom geared as a region-wide education workshop on film production in Rhode Island. One of three presentations at the symposium, “The Future of Storytelling” starting at 11 a.m., will feature five shorts made by Providence Journal videographers — John Freidah, Steve Szydlowski, Sandor Bodo and Frieda Squires — who will take part in a panel discussion following the screening of their films, moderated by Michael Delaney, the managing editor for visuals. There will also be a panel discussion on the art of film music with composer Klaus Badelt of the “Pirates of the Caribbean” movies; a ScriptBiz Screenplay Pitch Seminar for budding screenwriters; a walking tour of Providence and film location sites in collaboration with the R.I. Historical Society, and more.
