Houseboat “Mini-Hotels” On Providence River

SleepAfloat Here’s a cool option for out-of-state visitors or locals looking for a unique staycation. The fleet of seven houseboats — consider them mini-hotel rooms on pontoons — are available through SleepAfloat Management and start at $200/night.

Simple and cottage-y from the outside, the units still offer all the amenities. The Providence Journal describes the interiors in today’s paper.

Inside, though, there is a bright and crisp spacious room with the general amenities: a sitting and dining area, a fully-stocked kitchenette, a flat screen television, cable, Wi-Fi, a bathroom with shower. There is plenty of sleeping space, including loft style accommodations and an extra bedroom. A ladder takes visitors outdoors to the upper deck where there are Adirondack chairs for easy sunbathing and access to urban vistas of the docks, the Providence River Bridge, the Providence skyline and the once majestic South Street Power Plant.

It’s just a short walk to Wickenden Street, and (for better or for worse) guests are just a hop, skip, and a “par-tay!!!” away from both the Whiskey Republic and the Hot Club.
