RISD Fashion Show

From Collection 2014/RISD (5.10) After months of conceptual development, experimentation and meticulous construction, final garments designed by Rhode Island School of Design students will make their runway debut at COLLECTION 2014. Seniors in the RISD Apparel Design program will show their collections this Saturday at the R.I. Convention Center. The designs shown are juried by a panel of guest critics. ProJo fashion correspondent Jenna Pelletier  has the details.

This year’s panel includes Council of Fashion Designers of America senior projects manager Neil Gilks; fashion historian and author Laird Borrelli; RISD Professor Emerita of Apparel Design Lorraine Howes; and fashion designers Nicole Miller, Reed Krakoff, Peter Som, Robert Geller and Leo Narducci.

Each of the department’s 30 graduating seniors will show at least one outfit from his or her senior thesis collection, a year-long project that includes at least six unified looks. Seniors typically use these portfolio pieces to try to secure work at design houses after graduation.
