‘Royal Tenenbaums’ MotB

(9.17) Wes Anderson’s 2001 action thriller “The Royal Tenenbaums” is this week’s Movies on the Block. From A.O. Scott at The New York Times,

. . . ”The Royal Tenenbaums” takes place in a fantasy New York of grand hotels and brick and limestone mansions where gypsy cabs meander through the streets and the light plays off dark mahogany, red velvet and brown corduroy. Like J. D. Salinger’s Glass family, the Tenenbaums — Royal is the given name of their scapegrace absentee patriarch, played by Gene Hackman — are a brood of hothouse geniuses.

Music by Mark Mothersbaugh. Running time: 103 minutes of solid whimsy. Rated R — under 17 requires accompanying parent or adult guardian to explain the hazards of voice over narration.

Sundown, Thursday, September 17, MotB, Grant’s Block, 260 Westminster Street, (directions)
