Womanimation Film Festival At AS220

(7.8) ‘Womanimation!’ a showcase of international women’s animated short films, returns for the ninth year, for one day only, to the AS220 main stage. These shorts, each under 12 minutes, present compelling narratives with distinctive points of view. (Details at MergingArts Productions.)

Exhibiting a select program of twelve short films from Europe and Asia, the festival blends styles such as traditional 2-d hand drawing, stop motion, and computer animation.

Themes run the gamut from confronting one’s inner demons in the dream world to exploring the wonders of the natural world, from dealing with loss of loved ones to forging new human connections.

The festival program will screen at 4pm, 6pm, and 8pm, with a reception following the final screening featuring DJ Madame B creating international soundscapes.

Seen here is the 7-minute, stop-action film, WireLess, directed by Szandra Pataki of Budapest, Hungary: Made of an infinite steel wire, the inhabitants of a strange world survive through unusual interactions and connections.

$10, 4pm to 11pm, Saturday, July 8, Womanimation, AS220, 115 Empire Street, (directions)
